ABOUT CARAVAN
Caravan is a people’s performing arts group formed in 2005 by few theater enthusiasts in our South Asian-American art loving community of Greater Augusta.
In July 2006, Caravan opened its doors with a sold out performance of Hindi comedy play “Arey! Shareef Log” and donated profit to another Charitable Trust to support children welfare fund. This year we gave another sold out performance of another Indian comedy classic at Augusta, GA. Caravan gives an outlet for creative community involvement, to create multilingual participatory performing art, innovative entertainment, simulating a glimpse of what the art is all about in South Asian region. We are also in process of taking the light music & dance drama seriously involving all ages, and ethnic groups of people from South Asia.
We expand our goal to involve communities from all ethenic groups and any religious belief. We organised workshops under our “Learn & Share” program for the younger generation of South Asian-American community to create an understanding about various customs, dances and foods under this program. In this short time Caravan entered into other art forms such as musical theater, dance drama, comedy, mimesis and pantomime, Cultural Shows and poem recital programs, which were all free to participate and supported by strong team of volunteers of different ages and ethinic groups from Asian-origin.
Any performing art form is a far-reaching discipline providing a humanistic approach to today's societal problems and issues and reminds us the culture and heritage. Through mastery of skills and techniques, people in theater nurture imagination, seek inspiration and fluent, authentic, original storytelling that reflects the complexity of the human mind.
Caravan is absolutely a Non-profit voluntary organization involved in providing funds for different community activities through Performing Art. Caravan produces challenging, artistically driven work without the encumbrance of financial success. We know what people want as a quality entertainment and we do it all with the resources we have on hand. Every individual can contribute to a performing art in one or the other way. We encourage and guide to explore and share the art inside any individual. Whatever we get from the community, we make sure every profit penny goes to the people, who need it most. We contribute the donation to various charities and community services. Each volunteer devotes his/her personal time in different community support services.
Last 3 years we have been perforning in Columbia county performing arts theater and all the shows were supporting some cause donating all our profits. We not only had our performances limited to our area as we got a demand of our previous shows in various other places like Louisville, KY and Columbia, SC. We planned to perform in other states in 2008 and generate some donations to support our underpreviledged community in and arround the Central Savanah River Site area.
In 2006 we registered with the State of Georgia as a Non-Profit organization to strenghthen our welfare program through sharing the performing arts.We value creativity, fiscal responsibility, professionalism, positive audience experience, accessibility, healthy entertainment and community enrichment through sharing Performing Arts.
